USA Cycling has endorsed British challenger Brian Cookson against incumbent President Pat McQuaid in a contentious election that will be decided Sept. 27 in Florence, Italy. Cookson has promised to rebuild cyclings reputation and governance after years of doping allegations that reached a crescendo with the Lance Armstrong confession. Robinson Emirates Team New Zealand leads Americas Cup scoring SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., September 22, 2013 On a day after unsettled winds on San Francisco Bay postponed racing altogether, Oracle Team USA came back to win races 14 and 15 in the Americas Cup Finals series , giving the team a fighting chance against Emirates Team New Zealand. Now at a score of 8-5, the American team is in a less daunting position of needing four consecutive wins to keep the Americas Cup. On Wednesday, that number was eight. The teams ability to claw its way back from such a trailing position has encouraged fans to turn out for a much more exciting race between the two countries. Emirates Team New Zealand still needs just one win to take the cup back to New Zealand. After grabbing the leeward position off the start line, the defender fought off constant attacks from the challenger throughout the match. Race 15 was a near copy, with Oracle Team USA starting the race to leeward of Emirates Team New Zealand, and leading throughout until the finish, at 23 seconds ahead of the Kiwi team.
